Okay, so I am no Meg Cabot or Nora Roberts or Adam Selzer, that may be true, but can it be that I can only squeeze out ONE book a year? I mean, that’s okay and all, but I’d like to be able to write at least two books a year. I was making great progress on MOVES, and then I just stopped. I look at it now like “what?” I mean, the framework is there. I just need to do a LOT of fleshing and organizing and adding more description and dialogue. Honestly, I am overwhelmed at the amount of work I have to do to it and it’s scaring me away.
I have to fight that. I don’t have to finish a book in two weeks like SOME PEOPLE I KNOW. It’s okay for me to take 6 months, like I’ve been doing all along, right?
Sigh.
UNTITLED. I’ve had a billion false starts on it. I know where I want it to go, but it won’t come out!!! Poor Alison. She’s been dying for her own story for years now. I don’t want to let her down.
I’m frustrated and feeling stuck because I want to write, but once I sit there, I lose all motivation and drive. I just feel tired, mostly. So maybe I’m tapped out for the year.
I’ve been told I need a break. But it’s hard to take it when I don’t really want to. But I think I have to, so I can clear my head and be able to write well. The stories will get told… I just need to be patient. Ethan’s got two of my books now, I guess it’s okay for me to breathe for a bit, huh?
Still, COME BACK, MUSE. I’LL GIVE YOU SOME CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH AND KOOL-AID!!! I promise. Just… come back to me!!!
Sometimes I’ve found my muse hides in the movie theater, walking trail by my house, or even a yoga session.
Take a break, for a while anyway. Go to a movie or take a walk. I know this might sound strange but when I walk I go over the scene I’m having problems with and most of the time I get more ideas or I’m able to figure out what’s wrong.
I’m sure your muse will come. Who can resist chocolate chip cookie dough? Good luck.
Ronni, last I checked, you had FIVE MONTHS LEFT. Plenty of time to finish that second book. 🙂
Do you know about National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)? Being a writer and all, you probably do. I just found out about it today, and it looks like so much fun! I am so gonna do this in November!
Yes, I tried to do it last year. It was a good jumping point and helped me get started on CRUSH, but I didn’t win it. It’s okay, though. I might use it again to jump start a new novel.
It’s the summer doldrums-it’s going around!
Good luck!!!
I’ve been feeling JUST like this lately. {sigh}
Maybe if you make your muse some hot dish? 🙂 I’m sending good writing vibes your way.
Hi!
Found you over at‘s.
Mind if I add you?
I’ve been writing my book for 4 years (on and off) & I’d TOTALLY love to be able to do 1 a year – YOU’RE MY INSPIRATION!! – or even 2 a year as you say!!
But remember, many of Nora Roberts’ or Amanda Quick’s or… books are ‘all the same’
So there’s a thing to be said about uniqueness and creativity as well…
Quantity is fun $$$$$$-wise, too…
ronnie you need a spiritual refesher that’s all. Stop worrying about it and RELAX. I know this to be true. I’m a published author who has run on empty of late. I had to make myself take a step back and chill the hell OUT, lol. We are often harder on ourselves than we need to be and it makes the muse scream at us to leave well enough alone. I have two books due by Jan 1st and I’m at the 30k mark with one, and 15K with the other. I know that I can do this, when it comes down to it. But in order to do it, I have to compartmentalize it all. Don’t think of it as a whole, rather, the sum of the parts. One damn day at a time, girlfriend. one day at a time. It’s all good!
